    Berry Interesting Stuff

    Jason Smith is my brother-in-law

    Did you know:

Cordelia Knott made the first batch of boysenberry preserves.  Knott's Berry Farm is the home of the boysenberry.  In 1927, a neighbor named Rudolph Boysen showed Walter Knott how to cross three berries and get the luscious new fruit.  Two years later Mrs Knott began a restaurant featuring the famous fried chicken of which granny Best speaks.  Boysenberry pie was the dessert of choice.  The restaurant was a booming success.  The lines were so long for the food that they started an amusement park to entertain people while they waited.  Today they have a Ghost Town, state of the art rides, and you can shake hands with a beagle at Camp Snoopy..  The one thing that has never changed is their commitment to quality.  It all started with a dream and a berry....Ask me how I know all this...I am a horticulturist.  Oh, and I happen to have a box of assorted preserves from Knotts Berry Farm from my dearly departed Aunt Opal.  Colleen rocks!!

    twenty years ago!!

Ok, so it's been a long time since I made an entry. Believe me I have been chastised for not giving out information quick enough.  It's just that my days are filled with many important missions that must be accomplished and when I get those done there is no time to blog....What could be so important? You ask.  Right now I am dealing with a family of racoons that decided me office at the greenhouse was a great place to set up housekeeping.  One of the little farts got himself down between the wall studs the other day and couldn't get out.  So yes I helped him out and he got a one way ride to the creek in the country.  One down!  Caught another big one last night on the roof.  They can't resist sardines for all that want to know what to use if you are after coons or skunks.  We won't discuss what happened to that one.  I did not eat him!  I have eaten racoon but that was over 20 years ago.  They are a little dark meated.  Not bad smoked, however.  I do have a college degree but not in coon trapping.  Learned that one on my own...If you ever get a skunk in a live trap, cover the trap before you pick it up and he won't spray you...Heck ya it works!!! Try it sometime and if you get sprayed I'll give you your money back.  I'll write again soon Pa..All my love from Arkansas

    El Coz

We had a blast at El Cozumeleno resort and spa in beautiful and sunny Cozumel, Mexico.

Yeah, so the "El Coz" was really great.  That is what we learned to call it from a dude that had been there like 100 times or something.  Don't think I'll be using  the term in public though since the guy had a nascar shirt and a little handlebar mustache and was a squirrelly little guy.  But he did inform us that he had been diving every other time he had been there except this time he was there to relax and take in the amenities.  So we felt really small you know...myself, I am a diver however and would be diving on this trip...just to clear the air and flex my pecs.  Ok everybody breathe deep and relax...

Here I am hanging by the bar, putting out the vibe.  You can tell I am a diver, right?
